If You Give A Girl A Tampon
She’ll inevitably need another.
Not even in a begging way… do you know how cycles work?
It’s not only once that she’ll need coverage. It’s the entire time that she leaks blood into the waters where sharks exist.
Perhaps if you do not have many tampons, you can direct her where to safely find more,
or even show her that there’s more than the tampons you currently have to offer.
Maybe she’ll learn that tampons were never really her style and move on to cups or discover that she’d rather stick with the mega dinosaur pads instead.
I can tell you with certainty,
as personal as the need for tampons are,
she’ll most always appreciate the ability to grab her own tampons.
She’ll also be sure to warn if she notices your tampons are low,
if you so need the warning.
If you give a girl a tampon,
she will discover the community that it delivers, and know that at some point she too will be a giver of tampons.
Do you know what tampons bring?
In a symbolic way, I mean…
They bring an unspoken knowing of the depths of vagina-hood.
The knowing of beginner unfamiliarity,
frustration,
irritation,
vulnerability,
and wise tales.
They open a door to accepting not only this version of girl,
but those that deviate.
They open the door to understanding that it is not one specific thing that makes a girl, so the discovered girls are also included.
Maybe that’s the reason for the attack on our tampons. If I share one with you, then you are under attack too.
Yes this is about tampons
so you’ll likely argue that the fundamental cycle is what makes a girl,
but I’d argue that not all girls have a cycle.
Perhaps she needs the tampon for another. Perhaps she has found a new use for the tampon.
I suppose to them I would not think to extend a tampon,
and still…
if you give a girl a tampon,
she’ll inevitably need another.
